Project: Exploring Traditional Ecological Knowledge and Sustainable Practices through Earth Ovens: A Multi-dimensional Approach to Science Education

Bio: Rose is an undergraduate at UC Berkeley studying Anthropology and Global Studies. Currently, she is working on her senior thesis, entitled “Exploring Traditional Ecological Knowledge and Sustainable Practices through Earth Ovens: A Multi-dimensional Approach to Science Education”. The final product of the thesis will be a collection of lesson plans using the model of the earth oven to reframe Indigenous peoples as scientists, engineers, and scholars. By integrating Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) with contemporary education frameworks such as the California Next Generation Science Standards, she aims to enhance my understanding of sustainability and cultural heritage preservation. These lesson plans will be created in collaboration with community partners. The goal is to build a toolkit for communities and provide them with the scaffolding necessary to support tribal educators.
