Missing American Aircrews Project

Our team is partnered with citizen scientists and institutions across North America to build digital comparative resources for possible utility for members of recovery teams working for the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA). Together, we are developing digital assets of aviator equipment and aircraft components that could be used by DPAA teams in field recovery operations. With field-deployable 3D models and a digital comparative collection of artifacts that might be encountered during the search for service members who made the ultimate sacrifice, our goal is to aid in understanding the context and location of what is being recovered in order to locate them more efficiently and bring them home. One way to do this is to maximize the potential of recovery and correctly categorizing non-human materials that would help identify crew positions at time of impact. The project is oriented for citizen scientists from all walks of life to contribute to the mission. https://tinyurl.com/berkeley-missing-airmen
